Timothy Johns

SFC Timothy W. Johns is from Starke, Florida. He joined the Army in July of 1998 and attended OSUT at Fort Benning, Georgia where he was awarded MOS 11B- Infantry.

Upon graduating OSUT, SFC Johns was assigned to the reconnaissance company of 2nd Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Irwin, California. While there, he served as a Junior Scout, Vehicle Operator and Radio Telephone Operator. He was next assigned to 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division (L) at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii where he earned a position in the Battalion’s Reconnaissance Platoon. He served in positions ranging from Reconnaissance Team Leader, Sniper and Sniper Observer. Upon redeployment from Afghanistan, the unit was re-flagged as 3rd Squadron, 4th Cavalry and SFC Johns was selected to stand up the new Sniper Section and subsequently served as Sniper Section Leader through a 15-month deployment in Iraq. Upon redeployment, SFC Johns was selected for Drill Sergeant Duty and was assigned to Delta Company, 2-46 Infantry at Fort Knox, Kentucky. After serving as a Drill Sergeant for two years, he was then assigned as the Reconnaissance Platoon Sergeant to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry, 3rd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Knox, Kentucky.

He served tours with 2-5 IN in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 5A (Afghanistan); 3-4 CAV Iraqi Freedom/New Dawn 2006-2007; 2-2 INF Operation Enduring Freedom 2011-2012 (Afghanistan).

SFC Johns’ awards include Bronze Star (1 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (6 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (4 OLC), Good Conduct Medal (4th Award), NATO Medal (ISAF), Afghan Service Medal (3 Bronze Stars), Iraq Campaign Medal (1 Bronze Star), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (3), Overseas Service Ribbon (5th Award), Meritorious Unit Citation (1 OLC), Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Air Assault Badge, Drill Sergeant Badge, and Order of St. Maurice (Centurion).

SFC Johns is a Graduate of the Warrior Leaders Course, Advance Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course, Drill Sergeant School, Air Assault School, Sniper School, Marine Corps Scout Sniper School, Marine Corps Reconnaissance Team Leader’s Course, Emergency Medical Technician Basic Course, Malaysian Tracking School, Malaysian Survival School, Pathfinder Course, Modern Army Combatives Course level one and two, and Vermont Mountain Warfare School (Summer).

SFC Johns currently resides in Macomb with his wife, Dana, and their son, Magnus, who is sure to grow up and be a superhero.
