I. STUDENT APPEAL

A. Business Administration

1. Request for a late withdrawal

Student and department unable to attend. Council reviewed the medical documents provided.

Motion: To approve the request. (Blackinton/Hammersley)

2. Request to waive the 6-hour C rule

Student and department not present. Council reviewed the included medical documents that supported the student’s statement. Discussion was held over options for the student.

B. Education

1. Request for a late withdrawal

Student and department unable to attend. Significant documentation was provided with the petition for Council review.

C. History

1. Request for a late withdrawal

Student present and department unable to attend. Student explained that while he did not have official documentation, he did experience health issues and was in communication with his advisor and faculty members. He is now able to continue and is close to finishing the work. Discussion was held over incompletes and the timeline to finish them.

D. Mathematics

1. Request for a late withdrawal

Student and Dr. Lafountain were in attendance. Student explained that she registered when she had a lot going on in her personal life during the spring semester. She didn’t realize that she was still in the course until she tried to register for a course this spring. Dr. Lafountain added that it was an honest mistake and the department fully supports the request.

II. GRADUATE FACULTY – FULL MEMBERSHIP

A. Ryan Aguirre, Assistant Professor, Music

B. Leigh Ann Fisler, Associate Professor, Psychology

Dr. Fisler and Dr. Lane were in attendance to answer any questions. Dr. Hemphill noted that there was extensive research listed within the packet. Dr. Hammersley added that while Dr. Fisler is new to WIU, she has had significant contributions. Dr. Lane noted that she was hired in as the School Psychology Coordinator so will be responsible for chairing capstone experiences if approved for full membership.

III. ANNOUNCEMENTS

B. Temporary Graduate Faculty approvals for 2021-2022

C. Graduate Committee Chair spring semester meeting

Ms. Schulz announced that there will be a spring meeting of the Graduate Committee Chairs but the date has not been set yet. All Council members will be invited to attend. The meeting will be virtual and likely in March.

D. Graduate Student Research and Professional Development Fund

Ms. Schulz reminded Council members that applications for this fund are due to departments on February 15 and due in the School of Graduate Studies by March 1. The review sub-committee for this semester consists of Dr. Anderson, Ms. Blackinton, Dr. Hemphill, and Dr. Keefe.
