In honor of National Library Week, there will be an open house in all of the Western Illinois University Libraries on Wednesday, April 15, 2009, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. All five of Western's libraries are participating: the Leslie F. Malpass Library; the Physical Sciences Library (Currens 201); the Music Library (Sallee 108); the Curriculum Library (Horrabin 80); and the Quad Cities Library (Moline).

During the event there will be a book signing of the newest book published about the University, Jeffrey W. Hancks and Adam J. Carey's Western Illinois University, published in March 2009 by Arcadia Publishing. Hancks, who is Baxter-Snyder Professor of Icarian and Regional Studies as well as coordinator of the University Archives and Special Collections, will be on hand for the signing. The book, which tells the story of the University through historical photographs, will be available for purchase at the event.

"This will be a good time to visit our libraries, have a tour, and learn about our services and collections," notes Dr. Jeffery Darensbourg, marketing and outreach librarian, "We also would like to celebrate the newest book about our University." The open house will be followed by a flying of kites on the south lawn of the Malpass Library, weather permitting.
