University Libraries' Book Club Selects Beloved by Toni Morrison
Members of the University Libraries' Book Club met on September 30th and selected the Pulitzer-Prize winning novel, Beloved by Toni Morrison for the fall reading. The book follows the story of Sethe, an escaped slave and the lives of those around her. It is a compelling read that is thought provoking and should lead to interesting discussion. Book Club participants can meet to discuss the reading on either Thursday, October 28th at 7:00 p.m. or Friday, October 29th at 9:00 a.m. in the Mary Lou Kent Room on the 6th Floor of the Leslie F. Malpass Library. Two meeting times were scheduled to accommodate as many book club members as possible.
In addition to the book club meeting, Krista Bowers Sharpe, librarian and book club participant, encourages those who are interested in Beloved to review the following websites for additional understanding:
- "Understanding Toni Morrison's Beloved" by Dr. Linda Tate, Shepherd College
- Interview with Toni Morrison about Beloved (stream or download mp3)
Anyone interested in discussing the book, is welcome to attend either of the discussions listed above.
