“Baskets for Books” Supports Libraries Through Athletics

The WIU basketball season starts soon! As you don your purple apparel and prepare to support your team on the court, consider supporting them off the court as well by pledging in the second year of our Baskets for Books campaign.

This fundraiser represents a continuing partnership between WIU Athletics and WIU Libraries. Participants will make a pledge for every three-point basket made at men's and/or women's home basketball games during the 2016-2017 season. In March of 2017 they will receive an invoice from the WIU Foundation for the final pledge amount, based on the total number of three-point baskets made at home games. An average of 114 three-point baskets were made by the teams last season at home games.

All funds received will go towards purchasing new books for University Libraries. “Last year we raised $1,755.20 through the combination of the teams’ hard work and our generous donors,” said Suzanne Woodward, director of development for University Libraries. “We hope this year we can get enough pledges to beat last year’s amount and buy even more educational resources for all WIU students.”
