NAMM Show (National Association of Music Merchants)

The NAMM International Music Market is a tradeshow where virtually every manufacturer of any type of music product (except for records and CDs) will have displays of their products and unveil new products. Retailers from around the world attend the show to see what's new and to place orders for merchandise for the next season.

This is a closed show – only on the last day is the public allowed into the show.

Therefore it is a real privilege for us to attend as NAMM's guests, only about 450 students attend. Brace yourself - over 80,000 attend! Students experience booth tours, workshops with other music business students, access to NAMM show floor workshops, and the chance to connect with professionals who can assist with future internships and employment opportunities.

The show takes place every January, the week before classes start for the second semester.

Fieldtrips

The curriculum of upper level music business courses includes participation in fieldtrips to organizations within the music business. Don’t worry, this is FUN and a chance to meet professionals in the field and see an active, breathing organization from the inside!

Some examples of places visited recently include: River Music Experience, Davenport, IA; Shure Inc., Niles, IL; West Music, Moline, IL; Hal Leonard Publishing, Milwaukee, WI; Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Joffrey Ballet, Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, Harris Music and Dance Theater and Lyric Opera of Chicago, Chicago IL.
