Bachelor of Arts in General Studies Scholarships
These scholarships listed below are specifically administered by the BGS degree program.
BGS Alumni Scholarship
Nearly 7,000 people living throughout the world are proud to trace their academic roots to Western Illinois University’s Bachelor of Arts in General Studies degree program. This scholarship is funded by BGS alumni donations that provide current BGS students with the necessary assistance that will aid them in receiving their degrees.
Award Amount: $1000 annually
Due Date: May 1
James and Eva Ann Elmer Scholarship
A scholarship in the name of James and Eva Ann Elmer has been established to be awarded specifically to a student in the Bachelor of Arts in General Studies degree program. The scholarship is awarded in the amount of $1,000 annually ($500 in the fall semester and $500 in the spring semester) to be applied to the student’s account. Please be certain to review carefully the criteria for the scholarship.
Award amount: $1000 annually ($500 per semester)
Selection Criteria: 3.0 gpa
Due Date: May 1
Robert H. Winklepleck Scholarship
A scholarship created by Julia Winklepleck to honor her late husband. Robert completed his Board of Governors Bachelor of Arts degree (now BGS) in 1992 while serving in the United States Air Force and stationed in Saudi Arabia. The scholarship is awarded in the amount of $500 annually ($250 in the fall semester and $250 in the spring semester) to be applied to the student's account. Full-time and part-time students are eligible to apply.
Award amount: $500 annually ($250 per semester)
Selection Criteria: Preference will be given in the following order:
1. Active Duty Military
2. Reserves or Coast Guard member
3. Any BGS student with military or veteran status

Illinois Association of Fire Protection Districts Foundation
William (Bill) P. McCamey Scholarship
A scholarship in memory of William (Bill) P. McCamey has been established by the
Illinois Association of Fire Protection Districts (IAFPD) foundation
to be awarded specifically to a WIU student who is also a firefighter in the State of Illinois with a fire station that is a member of the IAFPD. The scholarship is offered in the fall and the spring semesters depending on availability of funds. The award will be applied to the student's account. Please be certain to review carefully the criteria for the scholarship.
Award amount: $1000 annually ($500 per semester)
Due Date: June 15/November 30

There are many scholarships available to students. The WIU Foundation’s Scholarship Program represents a strong tradition of helping WIU students, and is continually growing, with new scholarships established every year.
