To offer a brief respite from the pressure that accompanies preparation for final exams, Western Illinois University Libraries will once again offer opportunities for stress relief within the Leslie F. Malpass Library and the branch libraries.

Activities will take place at various times beginning Monday, May 1st through Friday, May 12th. According to Outreach Librarian Christina Norton, scheduled stress relief activities include:

  • 1- 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 3rd: "Dead Week" with Daisy (certified therapy dog), Malpass Library Garden Lounge (Note: There will be a short break for the dog during the two-hour time period.)
  • 5:30-7:30 p.m. Sunday-Monday, May 7th and 8th: Cookie giveaway (facilitated by the Library Leadership Board), Malpass Library, second floor atrium

For students to use at their leisure when they need a break from studying, unscheduled, "whenever you want" activities, such as coloring pages, WIU-themed crosswords and jigsaw puzzles, will also be available in Malpass Library for the entirety of the two weeks. Stress balls will be on hand for students to take out their tension on, as supplies last. Coloring pages and some puzzles will also be available in the various University Libraries' branches, including the music library, the curriculum library and the physical science library.

"University Libraries are always glad to support the WIU community during finals, not only with academic efforts, but with stress management as well," Norton said. "Anyone in need of a pick-me-up during these important weeks is welcome to visit us and take advantage of what we have."
