II. GRADUATE CURRICULUM

A. Music

1. Request for a 400-G level course

a. MUS 442, Internship, 1-12 repeatable to 12 s.h.

Dr. Brown explained that the description of this course was updated due to an increasing number of international students being invited to perform in different area groups. The School of Music wanted to make the opportunity available to them to earn academic credit as well. Dr. Babu asked about the course objectives. Dr. Brown responded that only those that are relevant to the graduate students are included on the form. Graduate level credit is performance based only.

Motion: To approve the request. (House/Babin)
MOTION CARRIED 8 YES – 0 NO – 0 AB

B. Kinesiology

1. Request for Integrated Baccalaureate and Master’s Degree Program

a. Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology (Augustana College)/Master of Science in Sport Management (Western Illinois University)

Dr. Polubinsky was present to answer question. Dr. Hemphill provided Council members with an overview of external integrated programs and examples of existing programs at WIU. Dr. Polubinsky explained the expansion of the Sport Management program to the Quad Cities campus and how this program could help promote it. The program already places graduate assistants at Augustana so this seemed like a natural fit. The courses identified at Augustana are acceptable as electives and all admission requirements match the current program admission requirements. Discussion was held over the current relationship with Augustana. Dr. Zhao asked if there was an internal integrated program for Sport Management. Dr. Polubinsky responded that it wasn’t a good fit with their current Exercise Science undergraduate program.
