Study Abroad in Japan in Summer 2010

Dr. Febe Pamonag joined the Department in the fall of 2007 as its specialist in Asian History. Prof. Pamonag received her Ph.D. in 2006 from the University of Alberta. She offers the Department's upper-division courses on the History of China, Japan, and Modern East Asia [History 345, 346, and 445 (G)], the Asian History survey course [History 145], which is available for Humanities and Multi-cultural General Education credit, and graduate seminars on modern Japanese history and modern Asian women's history [History 530 and 531].

Prof. Pamonag's current research explores the cross-cultural interactions between Tsuda Umeko, M. Carey Thomas, and Bryn Mawr College.

Prof. Pamonag’s article on Japanese education reformer Tsuda Umeko and Philadelphia Quaker women will be published by the U.S.-Japan Women’s Journal in late 2009. Prof. Pamonag has also won several awards, including a WIU University Research Council Grant and most recently, a WIU Summer Stipend to support her research.
