The WIU Symphony Orchestra has a long tradition of performing orchestral works of the masters of western music. Recent concerts have included symphonies of Beethoven, Brahms, Dvorák, Mendelssohn, Shostakovich, Schumann, and Schubert, as well as numerous overtures, concertos and other works ranging the Baroque Period to the 21st Century. The Orchestra sponsors an annual Halloween Concert and the Concerto Competition. The WIU Symphony also performs annually for the School of Music opera production. Three to four concert programs a semester are prepared and performed. All WIU students are welcome to audition for membership in the Orchestra, regardless of major. Any questions may be directed to conductor Dr. Richard Hughey, at (309)298-1729 or E-mail at: RL-Hughey@wiu.edu
