Facilities Focal Point
Congratulations to John Emory, Grounds Equipment Mechanic here at Facilities Management for being the recipient of the Winter 2017 Facilities Focal Point quarterly recognition award.
John is from rural Prairie City, where he was raised on a farm and feels there wasn't any better way to grow up.
John began working in the Transportation Department at WIU as an Automotive Technician Assistant in August 2011, and by the fall of 2017 will have completed his 6th year in Landscape Maintenance.
“I enjoy my current position because I feel like I am contributing to my department,” John says. “By maintaining and repairing the equipment I feel like I am helping out my coworkers so that they can more easily get their work done. There is always something different going on in this department and a variety of jobs to get done. No two days are ever the same.”
John and his wife Cindy enjoy taking their boat out on the water as time allows. “Our adult children and our grandchildren enjoy the water and camping with us when they have the time to get away for a while.”
When he retires John would like to drive one of his cars and participate in the Hemmings Motor News Great Race - a nine-day journey that covers nearly 2,500 miles in vehicles built in 1972 and earlier. “I caught a few of those neat old cars a few years ago when they were passing through Macomb and fueling up.”
In his free time John likes to work on his cars. “I have a variety of other interests so finding something to do when time permits is never a problem.”
