Sadie Nickles

Ms. Sadie Nickles graduated from Western Illinois University in 2021 with a degree in Physics and a double minor in Mathematics and Spanish. While at WIU she took part in interdisciplinary research under the direction of Dr. Brian Bellott and Dr. Mark Boley of the Chemistry and Physics department, respectively. She is currently a first-year PhD candidate at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She is working in the King lab, which focuses on single molecule biophysics. They are currently utilizing Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) to study the conformations, conformational dynamics, and structural energetics of membrane proteins in near-native conditions. Presently, Sadie is learning to apply Single Molecule Force Spectroscopy (SMFS), a function of the AFM, to probe various protein-lipid interactions with higher resolution.
