Kasey Ramirez – Remnants Jan 18 - Feb 18, 2022 https://www.kaseyramirez.com/ My images reside somewhere between recognizable landscapes and composited dream worlds of marks and scrapes, haze and dust. Vacillating between depiction and abstraction, my aim is to realize spiritual and emotional states as spatial images. My work derives from a variety of sites, from the sacred to the industrial. These sources become transformed, abstracted, and sometimes obliterated through drawing, collage and carving. I aim to create an arresting, monumental sense of space, of looming humidity and atmosphere in my work, reminiscent of Piranesi’s Vedute di Roma, or Tohaku’s landscapes. I enjoy the alchemical properties of printmaking—how the surface of wood can become air, to be at once an assertively flat surface and a spatial, breathing image. More recently my work has shifted to more overtly address the pressing issue of climate change. I place manmade structures in environments where they are overcome and consumed by their surroundings, by severe weather on an enormous scale.
Susan Czechowski, Jenny Knavel, Kat Myers - Equinox March 1 – April 8, 2022 Reception: Tuesday, March 8, 4:30-6:00 pm This exhibition features the work of Western Illinois University Professors Susan Czechowski, Jenny Knavel, and Kat Myers. It is a tangible testament to the creative endeavors of three women who teach, as well as create, fine art and design.
Michael Darough – The Talk: A Conversation About Race in America February 22 – March 25, 2022 Reception: Thursday, February 24, 4:30-6:00 pm http://www.michaeldarough.com/ These images were created in response to the Black Lives Matter Movement. The faceless men represent individuals affected by this systemic issue. Those void of the figure symbolize the stories that struggle to be told. They are the ones that do not receive news coverage. Incarceration rates, racial profiling and fatalities from law enforcement disproportionately affect individuals of color.
