Office of General Counsel

The Office of the General Counsel is responsible for the University's Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and the State of Illinois mandatory Ethics Training, and also represents the University in all legal matters involving external administrative agencies.

In addition, the University Attorney:

  • advises the executive administration and Board of Trustees regarding legal matters and compliance;
  • advises and assists departments responsible for compliance and employment matters;
  • drafts and reviews all contracts concerning the University on a wide range of issues, including:
    • employment
    • real estate and leases
    • construction
    • insurance, and
    • procurement. 

Any student, faculty, or staff member who believes they have witnessed a violation of the State Officials and Employees Ethics Act should report the violation immediately to:
