Cost of Study for International Students

All international students must provide proof of funding for one academic year to study in person at WIU.

No financial statement is required for students beginning studies online.

First semester tuition must be paid IN FULL on arrival.  No exceptions.

The approximate costs for the 2023-2024 academic year of study are as follows:

If you plan to bring your spouse or child(ren) with you, add approximately $8,200 per year for the living costs of a spouse and $4,100 per year per child.

WESL Pre-Payment

Students who have not satisfied the English language proficiency requirement must pay a deposit of $4,500 USD before an I-20 is issued. Payment can be made by bank drafts (certified checks) from a U.S. bank or wire transfer.  Please be sure to include your name and student ID number.  Students with governmental scholarships are excluded from this policy.

Western Illinois University has partnered with Flywire to streamline the tuition payment process for our international students. Flywire allows you to pay from any country and any bank. They also offer excellent foreign exchange rates, allowing you to pay in your home currency (in most cases) and save a significant amount of money compared to traditional banks. You will be able to track the progress of your payment throughout the transfer process via a student dashboard, and you will be notified via email when your payment is received by Western Illinois University.
