On Thursday, March 25th at 7:00 p.m. Professor Jim McCommons will present the Centennial Honors College 10th Anniversary Lecture, "Passenger Rail Service in America." The lecture will be held at Western Illinois University Malpass Library Garden Lounge.

Professor McCommons' recent book, Waiting on a Train: The Embattled Future of American Rail Service, is a Library Journal choice for Best Books of 2009. Spending his sabbatical riding 26,000 miles on America's trains in 2008, he interviewed both everyday people and experts on the past, present, and future of American rail transportation. His writing background is considerable. He has written hundreds of general interest magazine articles.

A question and answer session, book sale and signing, and a reception will immediately follow Professor McCommon's address. The event is free and open to the public.
