Whistleblower Panel Discussion A Success

University Libraries and the Department of English kicked off the school year with a successful panel discussion on whistleblowing in the Malpass Library Wednesday, September 15th. The panel consisted of Chicago Tribune statehouse reporter, Ray Long, and Woodford County Board member Larry Whitaker, a former journalist. Bill Knight and Bill Thompson moderated the discussion.

"The panelists engaged in a thoughtful and thought provoking dialog about the role of secrecy and transparency in both government and journalism. What was interesting was to hear journalists and politicians discuss the often difficult negotiations between secrecy (protecting a source’s anonymity) and the desire for the accountability that comes with transparency," according to Bill Thompson, Associate Professor. "I was pleased with the turnout and audience participation. And you can quote me on that."
