Search Waiver and Promotion Policy

Western Illinois University is firmly committed to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and to complying with all federal, state and local laws that prohibit employment discrimination on the basis of age, race, color, gender, national origin, religion, disability, protected veteran status and other protected classifications. This policy applies to all employment decisions, including recruitment, hiring, and promotions. Western Illinois University is committed to ensuring affirmative action to hire and advance qualified minorities and women, individuals with disabilities, and veterans. Filling vacancies through the search process ensures compliance with federal and state affirmative action legislation, in addition to assurance that units are hiring qualified candidates. In rare instances/circumstances, a limited number of administrative and/or faculty appointments and some promotions may be made without the standard search process. The search requirement may be waived on a case-by-case basis in accordance with the search waiver policy. All search waivers must be approved by the President, with guidance from the Director of Equal Opportunity & Access and the Chief Human Resource Officer.
