Daya Snapp and Dr. Sutton, Department Chair and IGS President. Daya Snapp, a senior from Momence, Illinois received an Outstanding Senior in Geography Award from the Illinois Geographical Society. The Society recognizes senior geography students for superior accomplishments in geographical study as well as for contributions to the department. The award, was presented at the Annual Meeting of the IGS April 13 in Charleston.

A transfer from Kankakee Community College, Daya has been named to the Dean's list two of the three semesters she has been at WIU. She has worked in the department's GIS Center since the summer of 2006. She has been involved in numerous Center projects and was the lead in a project that created a township-level atlas for McDonough County 9-1-1. She was alsoinvolved in a student project that is constructing a 3D model of Macomb's Courthouse and Square.

She currently serves as the President of the Severe Weather Club and Vice-President of both the Student Society of Geography and the Gamma Theta Upsilon honor society. Daya organized two organizational submissions during the 2006 Homecoming. Both submissions won first place among all small (non-greek) organizations. Daya has also been a student worker in the Department office since Fall, 2005.
