Tej Kaul is a Professor in the Department of Economics and Decision Sciences. Prior to being named as the chair of Economics and Decision Sciences, he served as chair of the Information Systems and Decision Sciences department. After earning his Ph.D. in Economics (econometrics and international economics) from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (India), Professor Kaul did his post-doctoral work at Iowa State University, Ames. During his post-doctoral work at Iowa State University, he worked on an NSF project: “Measurement and Valuation of Social System Outcomes” under the direction of his mentor, Professor Karl Fox. Professor Kaul gained additional post-doctoral experience, particularly in the area of Information Systems, by attending the “Basic” and “Advanced” Institutes in Information Systems at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis (under the direction of Professor Gary Dickson) and at the University of Baltimore (under the direction of Professor Milt Jenkins) respectively.

Professor Kaul is a co-author (with Karl Fox) of the second edition of Intermediate Economic Statistics, and a co-editor (with Professor Jati Sengupta of the University of California, Santa Barbara) of the Economic Models, Estimation, and Socioeconomic Systems: Essays in Honor of Karl A. Fox, a North-Holland volume in “Contributions to Economic Analysis.” He is an author or a co-author of many publications. His publications, among others, have appeared in Management Science , Human systems Management, Proceedings of the American Statistical Association, Proceedings of the World Congress III of the Econometric Society, Proceedings of the AIS America’s Conference on Information Systems, and the Proceedings of the Decision Sciences Institute. Professor Kaul has served as the Invited Articles Editor of the Journal of Behavioral Economics. He is currently serving as an Associate Editor of the International Journal of E-Business Research.

Professor Kaul is a past President of the Western Illinois University Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi and the Association of Indian Economic Studies. He has served as a reviewer for the European Journal of Operations Research and the INFORMS journal on Manufacturing and Service Operations Management. Professor Kaul is a recipient of several Western Illinois University “faculty excellence awards” and College of Business and Technology’s “Outstanding Teaching Award.” He has taught courses in, both, Information Systems and Decision Sciences. He has served on many university committees, including serving as chair of the Faculty Senate. He is currently serving as the Faculty Senate Parliamentarian.

Research Interests: Econometrics, Management of Information Technology, Economics of Information, WIP and JIT Production Systems, Operations Research and Operations Management, and Quantitative Business Forecasting and Modeling.
