Office of Public Safety Report - 2012-05-07 to 2012-05-09

On May 7 at 11:19 a.m. a contractor doing work for the University reported two spools of copper wire and an additional 220 feet of copper wire were stolen from the locked mechanical rooms in Corbin and Olson halls. Estimated value of the copper wire is $1,760. The theft is under investigation.

On May 7 at 4:37 p.m. officers responded to a call from Tanner Hall were they found derogatory words on a resident’s door. The estimated cost to clean the door is$30.

On May 7 at 5:30 p.m. a student at the WIU-Quad Cities campus was issued a judicial referral for behavior.

On May 7 at 10:22 p.m. a student reported being verbally harassed and bullied by persons known to her. The incidents are under investigation.

On May 8 at 4:35 a.m. a student reported the theft of his computer and cell phone from his Higgins Hall room. Total estimated value of the loss is $500. The theft is under investigation.

On May 8 at 10:37 a.m. a student in Washington Hall reported being harassed by phone calls by an unknown person. The incident is under investigation.

On May 8 at 1:38 p.m. a student reported her backpack, containing a laptop computer, a textbook and completed exams, was stolen from a Morgan Hall classroom. A cost estimate was not available. The theft is under investigation.

On May 8 at 3:03 p.m. officers responded to a call from Tanner Hall where graffiti had been written in an elevator. The estimated cost to clean the elevator is $30.

On May 8 at 6:13 p.m. Eric R. Haaksma, 19, of 707 Tanner Hall; Nicholas Jordan Hesslau, 19, of 717 Tanner Hall; and David S. Alexander, 19, of 715 Tanner Hall, were each given a notice to appear June 12 on a Macomb City ordinance violation for willful damage to property. They allegedly spray painted the Rocky statue outside of Hanson Field and spray painted figures on the sidewalk nearby. Five other students received judicial referrals for behavior.

On May 8 at 7:29 p.m. a student reported his computer, two cell phones, an Xbox game system with a controller and five games and a textbook were stolen from his Higgins Hall room. Estimated total value of the loss is $1,300. The theft is under investigation.

On May 8 at 8:26 p.m. officers responded to a call from the Malpass Library where graffiti was found in a men’s bathroom. The estimated cost to remove the graffiti is $30.

On May 9 at 2:29 a.m. a student reported being harassed via Facebook by three people known to her. The incident is under investigation.
