WIU WindFest (January 21, 2023)

The woodwind faculty at Western Illinois University would like to invite you and your students to attend the 2023 WIU WindFest, held on the campus of Western Illinois University, Saturday, January 21, 2023. The students will participate in interactive and dynamic activities, including a group warm-up, clinics, and instrumental ensembles. In addition, the event will host a Woodwind Competition with two divisions; Junior and Senior. The winners from each division will receive a cash prize and a chance to be back on the WIU campus to perform a solo work of their choice in 2024.

We will get to work closely together, and we look forward to working with you!

COMPETITION GUIDELINES

All candidates must register and indicate their participation on their registration form. There will be only one round, live on the day of the WIU WindFest. There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each division.

ELIGIBILITY

For the 2022-2023 school year, the student must be in 12th grade or under to compete for the Senior Division and 9th grade or under for Junior Division.

COMPETITION RULES

The competition will be limited to the first 10 registrants in each division.

All candidates should prepare a solo work in under 5 minutes. (No piano accompaniment required)

JUNIOR DIVISION AWARDS

  • 1st Prize - $100 plus solo piece performance at COFAC Recital in 2024
  • 2nd Prize - $50
  • 3rd Prize - $30

SENIOR DIVISION AWARDS

  • 1st Prize - $100 plus solo piece performance at COFAC Recital in 2024
  • 2nd Prize - $50
  • 3rd Prize - $30
