Geography Awareness Week and GIS Day in Proclaimed in State of Illinois and the City of Macomb

Governor Rod Blagoyevich and Macomb Mayor Mick Wisslead have proclaimed November 11-27, 2004 as Geography Awareness Week and November 14, 2004 as GIS Day in the State of Illinois and the City of Macomb. In 1987, U.S. President Ronald Reagan signed legislation establishing the third week in November as Geography Awareness Week. Every year since then, the Department of Geography at Western Illinois University has promoted the importance of geography through public lectures and outreach activities.
