Chad Sperry, Faculty Associate in Department of Geography and GIS Center Manager has received funding from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the amount of $69,420 for his project entitled, "IENC Field Check/Data Validation Tool Development."  The project duration is from July 9, 2007 through September 28, 2007. Task 1 of this project is for the contractor to use the shapefile data available for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Inland Electronic Navigation Charts (IENC) and format this data into base maps usable in Garmin Consumer grade GPS units.  Task 2 will be to format this data using IENC paper charting symbology into tiled GeoPDF maps suitable for printing.  Task 3 will be to investigate and begin to formulate advanced technological tools for in-field data validation and error checking.
