Dr. Chris Sutton has announced that he will return to the faculty effective January 1, 2008. Dr. Sam Thompson has been named interim chairperson. Serving as chairperson since 2002, Dr. Sutton oversaw the creation of the Meteorology major, GIS and Meteorology minors, and the post-baccalaureate certificate in Environmental GIS. His tenure as chairperson also included the establishment of the GIS Center and the hiring of several departmental personnel (3 tenure-track and 2 non-tenure-track faculty members, 5 staff). Dr. Thompson elevates to the role of interim chairperson after having served as the Department's graduate program coordinator since 2002.
