Kitty Karn teaches Voice and Musical Theatre at Western. Known for her effervescence, warmth and versatility, Kitty is at home singing Opera, Oratorio, Musical Theater, Jazz and Choral music. Kitty holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Concordia College, Moorhead, MN and a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from The Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in Houston, Texas, where she performed locally with Opera in the Heights, Theatre Under the Stars, Alley Theatre, Stages Repertory Theater, Theater Lab, Main Street Theater, Masquerade Theatre and The Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Houston. She has worked with Houston Grand Opera in several capacities including the HGO Chorus, Opera-to-Go, STARS and Opera New World.

As well as being an accomplished performer, Kitty has 23 years experience as a voice instructor. She combines practical knowledge with intuition to meet the needs of each individual student and guides them to the next level with patience and encouragement. Many of her students are professional singers and teachers in their own right. She has taught at Houston Community College and Sam Houston State University.
