Important Dates and Deadlines

Graduation Application

  • Graduation applications must be filed with the School of Graduate Studies by March 10 (for spring graduates) and October 10 (for fall graduates) in order for their names to appear in the program. If received after that date, the graduation date will be moved to the next semester. (Must have a degree plan on file in the School of Graduate Studies before application can be accepted.)
  • The Application for Graduation form can be found here.
  • Attending commencement does not guarantee graduation. All academic requirements must be complete and all paperwork on file in the School of Graduate Studies by May 27, 2022 before spring diplomas are awarded.

Cap and Gown Orders

  • The University Bookstore is the sole provider of officially licensed Western Illinois University graduation regalia.  Caps, gowns and tassels are available from the University Union Bookstore beginning TBD. Visit wiu.edu/bookstore to order online. Graduates will wear black caps and gowns.
  • The cost is as follows:
    • $32.50 for master and specialist degrees
    • $75.00 for doctorate degree

Graduate Hood Orders

  • A graduate hood may be purchased from the School of Graduate Studies via this online form.
  • Cost of hoods is $55 if picking up in-person from the Macomb or Quad Cities campus.
    • If shipping in the U.S., please add $5 to the total cost.
    • Payment can be made via the following methods:
      • Checks/money orders drawn on a US bank can be mailed to WIU Graduate School, 1 University Circle, Macomb, IL 61455.
      • Cash payment (exact amount only) will be accepted in-person on the Macomb campus only during in-person scheduled pickup.
      • Credit card online. Payment link is available on the order form.
    • Hoods cannot be mailed or picked up until payment is received.
    • Daily pick up is available in Sherman Hall 116 (Macomb campus) from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday with the exception of Friday, May 13 being 8:00 a.m. to Noon. Students may also pick up hoods at the Riverfront Hall front desk (Moline campus). Times are TBD.

Commencement Program

  • Students must have their graduation application on file in the School of Graduate Studies office by March 10 (for spring graduates) and October 10 (for fall graduates). If received after that date, the graduation date will be moved to the next semester.
  • Students who have invoked the Privacy Act will not have their names printed in the program or released to their local media by University Relations unless they sign a release form at the Office of the Registrar.
  • The commencement program will be available online.

Diploma

  • Your diploma and a complimentary transcript will be mailed approximately 6-8 weeks after commencement, providing there are no financial encumbrances and all requirements have been met. The address on your graduation application will be used.
