Admission to WESL

Submit the following to complete your application file:

  1. Submit your online application and $50 non-refundable application fee. You can pay the fee online when you submit your application. Students who need to mail a check or money order can select “Pay by Check” at the end of the application process and then submit their application. Click the Apply Now button to start your application.
  2. A copy of your passport.
  3. Official academic credential comparable to the equivalent of a U.S. high school diploma. If these documents are not in English, an official word for word English translation must be submitted with the original documents.
  4. A bank statement or scholarship letter as evidence of your ability to pay for your first year of study. If you are not the account owner listed on the bank statement, you must also submit the Affidavit of Support signed by your sponsor.
  5. A $4,500 pre-payment of tuition for the first semester of the WESL program. Payments can be made at flywire.com.

Applications are reviewed in the order that they are completed. You should allow two to four weeks after we have received all of your supporting documents to process your application file. Once your application has been processed, you will be notified of your next steps at the email address on your application.

All new students who are not government sponsored and are enrolling at WIU and WESL for the first time will automatically receive the $1000 WESL New Student Scholarship. This award covers the cost of tuition only and will be credited in two increments of $500 during your first two semesters in the WESL program.

Program Costs

Costs associated with the WESL program include:

  • WESL placement test: $100.00 cash payment is due at the time of the test during New International Student Orientation. 

  • WESL Tuition: $4,500.00 per semester

  • University fees are billed separately from tuition. Get current rates at Business Services.

  • All WESL students are required to carry student health insurance. Get more information about eligibility and costs from Beu Health Center.

  • Textbooks: Approximately $250.00 per semester

  • Government Sponsored Student Fee: $250.00
