MACOMB/MOLINE, IL -- Western Illinois University President Jack Thomas and Vice President for the Quad Cities and Planning Joe Rives invite members of the WIU and Macomb and Quad Cities communities to join the new University's new long-term planning committee at a planning session Monday, Oct. 22.

The session will be led by the Illinois Board of Higher Education staff members Alan Phillips, deputy director of planning and budget, and Dan Cullen, interim director of academic affairs. The meeting will be held from 1-2:45 p.m. in the University Union Capitol Rooms on the WIU-Macomb campus (with a video connection to Room 111 on the WIU-QC Riverfront Campus). Phillips and Cullen will discuss trend data for the development and implementation of the Illinois Public Agenda for College and Career Success and related statewide and national initiatives for advancing higher education. They will also lead a discussion focusing on change in higher education, followed by a question-and-answer session.

The meeting is part of the University's Strategic Plan which calls for two new planning teams. One team will address the new accreditation criteria from the Higher Learning Commission-North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, while the other team
will follow a model prepared by the Association of Governing Boards (agb.org/trusteeship/2012/3/power-strategic-thinking) to evaluate
20-year trends in higher education (current and projected) to determine if WIU's strategic plan has successfully prepared the University to address the trends.
