Enrich YOU at WIU! Programs for Employees

MACOMB, IL - - It's a new year, and it's time to learn something new. Western Illinois University's Human Resources office is sponsoring several programs, to be held during the spring semester, centered on new learning opportunities for WIU employees, including faculty, staff and administrators.

Programs include:

Opting for Happiness: A lifestyle choice – Webinar
9-10 a.m. - Wednesday, Jan. 15 -
This training highlights happiness as a frame of mind that people "choose" to embrace, rather than it being a result of external circumstances.

BaFa' BaFa' – Sherman Hall third floor auditorium
9-11 a.m. - Tuesday, Feb. 11 -
Join Assistant Director of Judicial Programs Jessica Mueller and Assistant Director of Student Activities for Leadership and Service Michelle Harvey for a thought-provoking simulation that is aimed at learning the value of faces in the workplace and understanding the effects that culture plays in every person's life.

"There's an app for that! What's an app?" – University Union Board Room
1:30-2:30 p.m. - Wednesday, March 5 -
Bring your iPad and join Kyle Randolph, Apple's campus representative, to learn the basic uses.

Heating Plant Annex Guided Tour – WIU Heating Plant and Heating Plant Annex
9-10:30 a.m. - Tuesday, March 11 -
What is the most requested place to tour on campus? The chance to tour the Heating Plant is available for employees to learn about the recent change to use natural gas in place of coal as the primary fuel source, as well as view the newly remodeled Annex. Capacity is limited, so register soon.

Be the Change Part I – Facilities Management Training Room
9-10:30 a.m. - Wednesday, April 9 -
According to Human Rights Campaign, "Transgender and transitioning employees—those moving outside the socially accepted standards of dress, physiology and/or behavior of their birth gender—often are subjected to challenging workplace standards about what is appropriate." This panel discussion, led by WIU faculty Craig Tollini and Bill Thompson, will provide insight into what a co-worker who is transgender or transitioning might be going through. WIU students will be on hand to share their experiences and answer questions, as well.

Be the Change Part II – Facilities Management Training Room
9-10:30 a.m. - Wednesday, April 16 -
This panel discussion aims at providing better understanding and insight and answering questions about what it is like to be gay or bisexual.

The Audit Process – Facilities Management Training Room
9-11 a.m. - Tuesday, May 13 -
Ashley Little, human resources representative, will provide information on the WIU audit process and answer questions about requesting a review of Civil Service positions.

Let's Get Physical – Donald S. Spencer Student Recreation Center, Fitness Studio West
5-6 p.m. - Monday, March 24 or 4:45-5:45 p.m. - Thursday, April 3 -
Calling all ladies! Join Kelley Kenady, Adriana Smith and Krista Shirley, all of the Student Recreation Center, to learn simple choreography and dance your way through a workout program. The program is designed for participants who may not have worked out for a long time, if ever. Employees do not need to be a Rec Center member to participate.
