MACOMB, IL -- High school juniors and seniors from a 10-county area adjacent to Western Illinois University can experience Leatherneck pride first-hand at a reception with WIU President Jack Thomas, followed by a Leatherneck Men's basketball game, Feb. 18.

Sponsored by WIU Admissions, the meet-and-greet reception for prospective college students, as well as those high school seniors from the region who have been admitted to WIU for Fall 2015, will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18 at the University Residence on the Macomb campus. The basketball game begins at 7 p.m. in Western Hall. Each student will receive complimentary tickets to the game for himself/herself and two guests.

Juniors and seniors from high schools in Adams, Brown, Cass (Beardstown), Fulton, Hancock, Henderson, Knox, McDonough, Pike, Schuyler and Warren are invited to attend the Feb. 18 event.

"We often find that local students take for granted there is a comprehensive university, with great academic programs and so many opportunities, right in their backyard," said WIU Admissions Director Andy Borst. "We want to ensure that students in the western Illinois region consider Western as a college choice, and to visit campus to learn more and see for themselves just what WIU can provide."

Reservations for the Feb. 18 reception must be made by Monday, Feb. 9. For more information or to register, contact Melissa Yeast at (309) 298-2896 or at MA-Yeast@wiu.edu.

The University has also provided additional incentives for local students interested in Western, including waiving the University's $30 application fee for those graduating seniors who apply for admission to Western for the Fall 2015 semester. Applications are still being accepted for Fall 2015.

Western also hosts Monday through Saturday visits on the Macomb campus for prospective students, including open house programs Feb. 16 and April 11.
