WIU Assistant Professor Published in Social Work Journal

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University- Quad Cities Assistant Professor of Communication Lance Brendan Young recently published an article in the "Journal of Social Work Practices in the Addictions."

The article, "Community- Level Barriers to Recovery for Substance- Dependent Rural Residents," was co-authored with Kathleen Grant of the Department of Veterans Affairs and Professor Kimberly Tyler of University of Nebraska.

Young said, "The article identifies 14 barriers to successful recovery from substance use disorder, which rural residents are more likely than urban residents to contend with."

Young is part of a research team that recently received a nearly $100,000 grant to train clinical staff at substance use disorder treatment programs at three VA hospitals in the Midwest.
