Democratic Ticket Wins Mock Presidential Election; WIU Students Voted Sanders/O'Malley to Take Top Seats


MACOMB, IL — With more than 400 Electoral College votes, the Democratic ticket—Bernie Sanders, president, and Martin O'Malley, vice president—was declared the winner in Western Illinois University's third Mock Presidential Election (MPE), "The Road to the White House Starts at Western Illinois University" Monday night.

MACOMB, IL — "The Road to the White House Starts at Western Illinois University" will culminate tonight (Monday, Nov. 2) with the Electoral College vote. The WIU event is the largest and most elaborate mock presidential simulation in the nation.

The 2007 and 2011 events both yielded spot-on results of the subsequent years' presidential elections.

The event will involve thousands of WIU students — from every every school and department on campus — showing them the importance of civic engagement and providing them with an in-depth understanding of how the entire presidential election process works.

The Nov. 2 Electoral College vote session is set from from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Western Hall on the WIU-Macomb campus.
