MACOMB, IL – Wednesday, March 2 is National Spread the Word to End the Word Day.

The word "retard(ed)" hurts millions of people with intellectual disabilities, as well as their families.

Spread the Word to End the Word is a national organization that encourages people of all ages to take the pledge and put an end to using the "R-word." The program is supported by Special Olympics and Best Buddies, as well as over 200 organizations around the world.

With a philanthropic partnership between Alpha Sigma Alpha (ASA) and Special Olympics, the Beta Kappa chapter of ASA at Western Illinois University will be taking the pledge from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, March 2 in the University Union food court area.

ASA invites any passersby to take the pledge and sign the Spread the Word banner, as well as receive an "I Pledged" sticker.
