Behind the bricks and mortar, there are the people of Western Illinois University and the Macomb community.

Who I Am: Brady Smith. I was born in Macomb and lived here my whole life, but didn't realize until I stepped on campus for the first time this last fall how unique and special Western Illinois really is.

What I Do: I'm a freshman economics student, minoring in pre-law through the Centennial Honors College. I'm a member of the men's tennis team, Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), a newly-elected Senator at Large for the Student Government Association, and chair of the McDonough County Young Republicans.

Why I Love WIU: Western is a hidden gem of a school, with hardworking faculty and staff who strive every day to make your education a personal one. The strong sense of community and togetherness that Leathernecks feel can't be found anywhere else. When traveling, my family wears purple and gold attire, and every trip we have someone stop us to talk about Western because they went there or a sibling did. That bond that we at WIU feel doesn't end at the graduation stage, it echoes around the country and could very well be the key in today's post graduation job search.
