Casa Latina Director Interview

MACOMB, IL -- The interview for the Western Illinois University Casa Latina Cultural Center's director position will be held Friday, May 5.

An open session with campus and community members with Rocio Ochoa, assistant director for the Center for Student Engagement at the University of Nevada, Reno, will be held from 9-9:50 a.m. May 5 in the University Union Fox Room. Ochoa will meet with students from 2:15-3 p.m. in the Multicultural Center.

Ochoa has served as the assistant director for the Center for Student Engagement at the University of Nevada, Reno since 2015. Previously, she was the associate director of campus student affairs at Ashford University in Clinton, IA from 2012-2015. Ochoa has also served as a language and culture assistant for the Ministry of Education: Almeria and Granada, Spain (2010-2012) and as the assistant director of intercultural life for Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, IA (2008-2010).

She received her master's degree in Latin-America Studies from the University of Granada, Spain and her bachelor's degree in sociology from Wartburg College.

The director supervises all operations at the Casa Latina Cultural Center, including the administration and assessment of programming and services offered by the center. The director serves as the adviser to the Latin American Student Organization, Tradicion Latin Dance Troupe, Undocumented Student, Allies Coalition and other affiliated groups. The director serves as a resource and liaison professional in the area of co-curricular and Hispanic cultural affairs and works collaboratively with the other offices in the Multicultural Center, the Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center and the Women's Center, in addition to various internal and external constituencies, to meet the diversity and inclusion goals of Western.
