Rising Stars Youth Theatre Experience debuts at WCIAC

MACOMB, IL – The West Central Illinois Arts Center (WCIAC) is introducing Rising Stars, a comprehensive theatre experience for young people, focused on developing all aspects (script, set, costumes, music, etc.) of a creative, original stage production.

Rising Stars is for kindergarten-eighth grade students (Spring 2017) who like to act, sing, play music, write stories, write songs, build things, draw, paint, create things or just have fun and help out.

The program will be held from 1-5 p.m., Monday-Friday, July 17-Aug. 4, at the Arts Center, 25 East Side Square, in Macomb. Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 4 and 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 5 in Browne Hall's Hainline Theatre on the Western Illinois University campus.

No experience is required, and students will be encouraged to find and develop their talents. High school students are invited to apply as volunteer assistants for community service.

Participation is possible for those not able to attend all three weeks.

The program cost is $40 for the first child from each family, $30 for the second child and $20 for each additional child, and financial assistance is available. Each participant will receive two tickets to the production.

Registration forms are available at the Arts Center or email risingstars@wciarts.org to request a form. To register, complete and mail registration form and payment to WCIAC, P.O. Box 692, Macomb, IL 61455, or drop it off at the Arts Center, 25 East Side Square, during Gallery hours (11 a.m.-3 p.m., on Tuesdays-Fridays and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays). Space is limited and early registration is recommended.

Rising Stars staff includes Heidi Clemmens, associate professor, WIU Department of Theatre and Dance; Kitty Karn, associate professor of voice, WIU School of Music; Kimberlyn Massey, WIU musical theatre student; Whitney Willard, WIU theatre student; and Nan Crossman, WCIAC executive director and founder of WCIAC summer youth camps and programs.
