MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois University Associate Professor of Music John Mindeman will have one of his musical arrangements performed by the brass section of the New York Philharmonic during its Holiday Brass Concert Sunday, Dec. 17.

Mindeman's arrangement of "Ding Dong Merrily/Good King Wenceslas" will be performed at the concert's opening.

"I arranged the piece, a medley of two Christmas tunes, 'Ding Dong Merrily/Good King Wenceslas,' in the summer of 2016 as a commission of three Christmas pieces for the Millar Brass Ensemble, a professional brass group in Chicago," said Mindeman.

Over Thanksgiving break, Mindeman said, he was contacted by Phil Smith, former principal trumpet of the NY Philharmonic about using the piece.

"He emailed me and asked to use the arrangement to open the annual NY Philharmonic Holiday Brass Concert," he said. "I am, of course, thrilled my work will be performed in New York by the world-class players of the Philharmonic."
