MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University Broadcasting and Journalism Assistant Professor Patrick Johnson has been selected as a National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE) Faculty Fellowship recipient for the January 2019 NATPE Marketplace and Conference in Miami Beach, FL.

According to the NATPE website, the Faculty Fellowship Program provides selected college and university media faculty with complete access to the sessions and activities of the annual NATPE market and conference. The goal of the fellowship program is twofold: to expose the educational community to current television issues and practices and to foster improved communication and cooperation between educators and the industry.

"I am very honored and excited to be selected for this amazing opportunity," said Johnson. "Being able to forge connections with industry professionals and ensure that our content is as current as possible will help to maintain the excellent and award-winning program we have in broadcasting and journalism at WIU."

Johnson serves as the advisor for "Bored of Education," the student-produced sketch comedy show in the WIU Department of Broadcasting and Journalism, and as co-advisor for WIU's student club that is affiliated with the National Broadcasting Society. He will also be taking over as the advisor for WIUS The Dog, the student run campus radio station, in Spring 2019.

Johnson, who received his doctoral degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of Colorado Boulder after working to produce numerous documentaries for History and the Discovery Channel, is in his first year at Western. He teaches several classes in the department, including digital media production, audio production and digital media graphics.
