MACOMB, IL – A number of Western Illinois University employees and student organizations will take part in the annual 2019 Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 3 to raise money for Special Olympics Illinois.

The plunge has been moved to the WIU campus, to pools that will be located outside Western Hall. Registration, and the post-plunge party, will be held in Western Hall.

All Polar Plungers are required to collect a minimum of $100 in donations and those who plunge in teams must have five members. Plungers are encouraged to come to the event in costume and will receive incentive prizes based on the amount of money they raise.

WIU groups already participating in this year's event include the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority and the WIU Office of Public Safety.

This is the 20th year of the Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge. In 20 years, more than 66,000 plungers have raised more than $18.4 million for Special Olympics, a not-for-profit organization that offers year-round training and competition in 18 sports for more than 23,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities and nearly 20,000 young athletes, ages 2-7, with and without intellectual disabilities. The programming enhances physical fitness, motor skills, self-confidence and social skills and encourages family and community support.

Registration can be completed at plungeillinois.com or by contacting Jennifer Davis at (309) 337-9326 or by email at jdavis@woill.org. Anyone interested in donating can visit plungeillinois.com, and select the March 3 event in Macomb.
