MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University and the Illinois Cooperative Council (ICC) will join the WIU School of Agriculture and Institute for Rural Affairs (IIRA) in hosting the WIU-ICC Cooperative Youth Conference Thursday-Friday, June 6-7 on the Macomb campus of WIU.

The goal of the event, open to high school sophomores, juniors and seniors, is to raise awareness of cooperatives, including how they are governed and operated. Through the event, attendees will be challenged to form their own mock cooperative and determine how its board would respond to various case study scenarios.

Students will stay overnight in WIU's Olson Hall. The conference is free, with all costs covered by sponsorships from cooperative businesses. WIU students and ICC board members will serve as chaperones and mentors during the event.

Attendees will have the chance to connect with other students from across the state, participate in field trips to tour local cooperatives and enjoy free time at the student recreation center.

Additionally, the ICC and the WIU School of Agriculture will offer a continuing education opportunity for agriculture teachers, which will run parallel to the youth conference.

A $30 deposit to register for the conference will be refunded upon attendance. To register, visit illinois.coop/youth-conference/2019-registration.
