Governor Appoints WIU Trustees

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Western Illinois University alumni Carin Stutz of Chicago and Patrick (Mark) Twomey of Macomb have been appointed as members of the Western Illinois University Board of Trustees by Gov. J.B. Pritzker.

Stutz and Twomey join Greg Aguilar of East Moline, Erik Dolieslager of Quincy, Kisha Lang of Maywood, Polly Radosh of Good Hope, Doug Shaw of Peoria and Justin Brown (student trustee) of Rantoul.

Stutz, a 1978 home economics graduate, is the former chief operating officer and executive vice president for Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, Inc. Prior to Red Robin, she served as president of McAlister's Corporation at FOCUS Brands Inc. In 2012, she was named the CEO and president of Cosi, Inc. and served as a member of Cosi's Board of Directors from 2012-13. Previously, she served for three years as the president and COO of global business development for Brinker International, where she led franchise development and operations for Chili's and Maggiano's restaurants worldwide; spent eight years as an executive vice president of operations for Applebee's International; served five years as central and pacific division vice president for Wendy's International; served as regional operations vice president for Sodexo, U.S.A.; and was vice president of corporate operations for NutriSystem, Inc.

Stutz was the past board chair and member of the board of directors of the Women's Foodservice Forum, an organization in the food service industry dedicated to developing gender-diverse leadership talent. She received her master's degree in business administration from Mid America Nazarene University

Twomey is the superintendent of schools for Macomb (IL) Community Unit District #185. He earned his bachelor's degree in elementary education, master's degree in educational leadership, education specialist degree (Ed.S) in educational leadershipand educational doctorate in educational leadership, all at Western. Twomey serves on the COEHS Advisory Board.

Prior to his position of superintendent for the Macomb school district, he served as the superintendent for Havana (IL) School District #126, as well as the principal and assistant principal at Macomb High School and the assistant principal at Ingersoll Middle School (Canton, IL). In addition, he has served as an adjunct instructor in COEHS's educational leadership department.

"We're pleased that Gov. Pritzker has appointed these outstanding alumni to the WIU Board of Trustees," said WIU Acting President Martin Abraham. "I look forward to working with our trustees to move Western into the future."

The Western Illinois University Board of Trustees originally was appointed in October 1995 by then-Illinois Governor Jim Edgar, after the Illinois General Assembly passed legislation creating the individual board, effective Jan. 1, 1996. Previously, WIU had been governed by the Board of Governors of State Colleges and Universities.
