MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – #GivingTuesday is a global movement Dec. 3 that unleashes the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world, and Western Illinois University Leathernecks from across the country unleashed their power to contribute $20,007 to make WIU an even better place.

"We could not be more grateful to everyone who contributed on this special day, and those who contribute to WIU every day, to support the student experience and every aspect of a Western education," said Tim Hallinan '95, director of the WIU Foundation's Annual Fund. "It's inspiring to see our friends, alumni, faculty, and staff, along with parents and current students, come together in support of our University. Their support is catalytic as we look ahead to a new year of creating the opportunities needed to ensure every WIU student with the drive to succeed receives their chance."

According to Hallinan, #GivingTuesday gifts reached every area of campus - academic programs, scholarships, athletics, student services, and University Libraries - to name a few. The University will also benefit from unrestricted funds donated, which gives the Foundation the flexibility to respond to the University's most pressing needs, he added.

"Thank you to everyone who supports our initiatives year after year, month after month and day after day to enhance the student experience at Western," said Brad Bainter, executive director of the WIU Foundation. "Every gift makes a difference in the lives of our students, and truly helps them to be successful during their time at WIU."

While #GivingTuesday occurs once a year, individuals interested in supporting their favorite area at Western may do so any time by visiting wiu.edu/giving or by calling (309) 298-1861.
