MACOMB, IL – Funeral services for retired Western Illinois University Director of Residential Facilities Dale W. Meador will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19 in Harrisville, UT.

He passed away Dec. 2 in Utah. Private burial will be held at a later date.

Meador began working at WIU in July 1962 and retired in June 1997. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from WIU.

While working at Western, Meador conducted a national survey of residence hall occupancy trends in 1973, seeking information from 278 public and private colleges and universities.

According to retired Vice President Emeritus for Student Services Garry Johnson, Meador was instrumental in helping with building numerous WIU residence halls during the 1970s. Johnson called Meador one of the most visionary people he's ever worked with and said everything Meador did was centered on improving the student experience at WIU. Meador was also a pioneer in bringing technology to campus and Johnson credited him for training countless people on campus and for being extremely involved in the Macomb community.

He is survived by his partner and companion, Su Robinette; his children, Greg; Dana and Lee; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; and one sister, Dona.
