MACOMB, IL -- Take that fiver in your wallet, and spend it "for the kids."

On Thursday, Oct. 8, Western Illinois University employees (and anyone else!) are invited to participate in the WIU RockyThon (Dance Marathon) fifth annual Miracle Jeans Day, with proceeds of the event going to St. Louis-area Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

Approval has been granted for WIU employees in all departments to participate in the special "wear jeans day," if they choose. For a minimum donation of $5, WIU employees can put their professional attire aside to wear jeans to work. Register at bit.ly/WIUMJD2020 or by check (payable to WIU RockyThon) or cash. On Miracle Jeans Day (Oct. 8), participants are asked to post photos on social media, with the hashtag #WIUDM.

More information about Miracle Jeans Day is available at miraclejeansday.com. The event is part of the student organization's year-round effort to raise money for Children's Miracle Network hospitals, St. Louis Children's Hospital and SSM Health Cardinal Glennon. The year-long event culminates March 27, 2021 (tentative due to the pandemic) with the 12-hour RockyThon, which honors the 12-hour shifts of doctors and nurses, as well as children who are unable to stand.

Western's RockyThon is entering its eighth year on the WIU campus. Donations are welcome, and may be made by visiting the WIU RockyThon website or emailing dancemarathon@wiu.edu.

Due to the pandemic, the Spring 2020 event was canceled. The virtual event, held March 28, raised $83,000. That pushed Western's seven-year total for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals to nearly $700,000.

Additional details and more events can be found on the WIU RockyThon Facebook page.
