On Campus Interviews Set for WIU Vice President for Enrollment Management

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Interviews have been set for two candidates for the new vice president for enrollment management position at Western Illinois University.

Candidates include Amber Schultz, former vice president for enrollment management at Edgewood College, Madison, WI, Wednesday, June 30; and Shelly Gehrke, assistant provost for enrollment management at Emporia (KS) State University, Friday, July 2.

An open session will be held via Zoom from 4:30-5:15 p.m.: Schultz (June 30, bit.ly/ASchultzVPEMOpen) and Gehrke (July 2, bit.ly/GehrkeVPEMOpen). Individuals interested in participating in the open session must register.

Schultz served as the vice president for enrollment management at Edgewood College from 2019 through 2021. Previously, she was the assistant vice president for admissions, marketing and recruitment at St. Cloud (MN) State University from 2014-2019. Schultz has also served as associate vice president for admissions, marketing and recruitment at Edinboro University (2013-2012); director of admissions and enrollment management at University of Minnesota, Crookston (2007-2012); and as assistant director of admissions (2005-2007) and freshmen admissions counselor (1999-2005) at Winona (MN) State University.

Schultz has a certificate in leadership in enrollment management from University of Southern California, an Ed.D. from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, her master's degree from Winona State and a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse.

Gehrke has served as the assistant provost for enrollment management at Emporia State since 2016, and she has served as the director of the Student Advising Center since 2010. Previously, she was the assistant vice president for academic success (2014-2016) and the interim assistant provost (2012-2014) at Emporia. Gehrke has also served as the director of academic advising at the Institute of Technology, University of Minnesota, Twin Cities (2008-2009); an academic adviser at the College of Natural Sciences at the University of Texas-Austin (2004-2008); an educator coordinator at the Educational Institute of Aging in Austin (1999-2002); and as the director of admissions at Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, TX (1997-1999).

Gehrke has a Ph.D. and a master's degree from the University of Texas-Austin and her bachelor's degree from Stephen F. Austin State University.

The vice president for enrollment management will oversee a Universitywide enrollment management process on the Macomb and Quad Cities campuses. The VPEM is responsible for the strategic vision, long-range planning, resource management and overall supervision and administration of personnel in the division of enrollment management, which includes undergraduate admissions, transfer services, retention initiatives, first year advising, transition and academic skills, career preparation and employer engagement and financial aid. The VPEM is primarily responsible for growing student enrollment and retention and improving the transfer process.
