Katz has served as interim director of the University Union at WIU since January 2020, and has also served as assistant director of the Union since April 2015 and as the facilities manager for the building from May 2011-April 2015. She has also served as a member of the COVID-19 response team since March 2020, coordinating the University's event guidelines and protocols.

She began working at WIU in July 2009 as a space administrator 1 in Scheduling and Event Services. "Ashley has done a terrific job serving as interim director of the University Union. She worked quickly to respond to COVID-19 challenges, and led the creation of the event protocols for WIU. Her knowledge and experience working as a University Union administrator over the years will allow us to continue to provide outstanding customer service to our WIU community and beyond," said Joe Roselieb, executive director of auxiliary facilities and risk management.

Katz serves as a Building Connections Mentor at WIU; as the college chapter/staff adviser for Delta Zeta sorority; and is an adviser for the WIU RockyTHON (WIU Dance Marathon).
