MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University alumnus H. Russ Brown has been named the 2022 Texas Theatre Association Higher Education Educator of the Year by the Texas Educational Theatre Association.

Brown, a 2005 MFA graduate, is now head of the theatre department and artistic director at College of the Mainland in Texas City, TX. The award will be presented this week, during TxETA Theatre Fest, in Galveston, TX.

"I am so very honored to have been chosen as the 2022 TxETA Higher Education Educator of the Year," said Brown. "I love the work I get to do and I loved who I am blessed to work alongside. I love to be a part of an extended family of colleagues and I absolutely, positively live for my students."

Brown said WIU's MFA program appealed most to him as he began his master's degree because it did not place limits on him.

"I came in knowing exactly what my hopes and aspirations were, and the program allowed me to advocate for my needs, and tailor my experience to my desired outcome," he said. "No other school would have been able to do that for me at the level that WIU did."
