MOLINE, IL - - According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2022), 47.7 million adults received a flu shot in 2021. Western Illinois University-Quad Cities will host a Flu Shot Clinic for WIU students, faculty and staff from 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Oct. 5 in Riverfront Hall, room 212.

Flu vaccinations provide many benefits to the population, reducing the risk of flu illness, hospitalizations and spreading of disease. While some may still get sick after receiving the vaccination, many studies have shown the shot reduces the severity and spread of illness.

Guidelines for attendance include:

  • A mask must be worn to enter the room.

  • You must wear a shirt that allows the vaccine to be administered in the upper arm.

  • You must allow the Rock Island Co. Health Department to administer the vaccine.

  • You must be present with a valid WIU ID card and state-issued health insurance card.

  • If you are using a state-issued health insurance card, you must find out if your insurance covers vaccines ahead of time and confirm that the Rock Island County Health Department falls within the network.

  • If you are not using a state-issued health insurance card or do not have health insurance, the fee for the vaccine will be $35 and a higher dose will be $55.

  • No HMO state-issued health insurance cards are accepted at the Rock Island Health Department.

Those who are unable to attend the clinic are encouraged to contact the Rock Island Health Department to schedule a flu vaccine.
